Fractal Vegetables
Back by popular demand! Fractal Vegetables.
Nature is full of mathematics where some things are obvious such as the nautilus shell or a fern – but vegetables?
Is it odd that I think that the Chou Romanesco is an amazing piece of a wonderful natural design?
The Brassica oleracea ‘Romanesco’ is not not only a tasty bit of veg (slightly more nutty and less crumbly than a normal cauliflower) but beautiful bit of design.

Inside is a tightly formed piece of veg

Cutting this in half reveals the structure

And the fractal bit? If you look at each floret, they have exactly the same form as the original veg

And each part of a floret is another copy and you can carry on cutting and zooming in
